It is the region of the Slavic Christianity and learnig. The south part of the region confines with Hungary. The metropoli of the region is Nitra, where during the first centuries the first feudal state of the Great Moravia was created here with the union of the Nitra and Moravia principalites. Today the town of Nitra is a modern town with more than 87.000 inhabitants. The region has the following provinces: Nitra, Komarno, Levice, Nove Zamky, Sala, Topolcany a Zlate Moravce.

Region well-known for the wine and for the thermal sources, it is situated in the western Slovakia. It confines in the west part with Czech republic and in the south part with Hungary. The metropoli of the region is Trnava with 73.000 inhabitants. The Trnava region has 7 provinces: Trnava, Dunajska Streda, Galanta, Hlohovec, Piestany, Senica and Skalica.

Currently Slovakia is divided into 8 regions and 79 administrative districts. This division of the regions came into force in 1996. The regions are concentrated around the largest cities in Slovakia.
The largest region is the administrative region of Banska Bystrica. The smallest region for extension is the region of Bratislava, but it is also the region with higher population density. The largest number of inhabitants living in the region of Kosice and the region of Trnava has fewer inhabitants than all other regions.
Region with traditions of winegrowing is extended in the south-west part of the Slovakia and confines with Austria and Czech republic. The metropolis of the region is Bratislava that is also the capital of the Slovakia. Bratislava has 450.000 inhabitants and is the center of the industry, of the politics, of the economy and of the culture. The region of Bratislava has like provinces: Bratislava, Malacky, Pezinok e Senec.
